Highlights from the October 20th Program
“Alternative Education”
Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS)
Introduction:
Fellow Rotarian Mary Barlow (Associate Superintendent of KCSOS) opened the Program with a short video presentation of “Alternative Education” …. She then introduced the Directors of “Alternative Education” Carlos Rojas and Christian Shannon.
Program Highlights:
Carlos Rojas kicked off the presentation by explaining “Alternative Education” helps empower thousands of students take control of education and life, through 8 Community Schools, and 5 Court Schools ( of which 3 provide housing ). The program takes an individual approach by encouraging their academic, personal, and social growth. Carlos explained the education has to address Academic needs and students have to demonstrate Growth and Positive Behavior. He closed out his presentation by inviting us ALL to the 2017 Graduation.
Christian Shannon explained “What happens after Graduation?” Through 3 Primary Pathways ( Construction, Automotive, and Medical/HealthCare ), the “Alternative Education” Programs provide guidance, knowledge, and PATHWAYS to succeed after graduation. Leadership Skills are emphasized to ensure real world opportunities. GREAT PROGRAM !!!!!!
President Morton Update:
President Dave updated the club on his visit to the District 5240 Conference. He shared “Cool” things other clubs are doing like:
- San Luis Obisbo Club: Paws for a Cause … Supply Service and Companion Dogs to Central Coast Veterans at no cost to the Veterans
- Conejo Club: Dream Catcher Playground … designed with great sensitivity to the needs, comforts and inclusion of special populations and their families.
Good News and announcements
Jeff Green, following in the footsteps of his hero and role model Donald Trump, decided to challenge his election as Secretary of our Club. With the assistance of Brad Barnes, President Dave assessed Jeff a $50 ‘filing fee’, (in order to properly register his protest).”
