Key Highlights From July 21st Program
- Garro Ellis introduced new member Kristen Barnes, President and CEO of the Kern Community Foundation.
- Fun Fact: Among Kristen's many and impressive credentials, she once starred in a Betty Crocker Easy Bake Oven commercial.
- Special musical guests of Bakersfield West Rotary's Rick Kreiser performed. Brooks Robertson and Philipp Wiechert were in town for a Guitar Masters' concert that night and did the pre-meeting music and a preview performance at the end of the meeting.
- Julie Juarez-Ceja, Community Liaison and Educator from the Alzheimer's Disease Association of Kern County (ADAKC) gave a presentation about their Adult Day Care Services.
- Over 10,000 residents suffer from some form of Alzheimer's.
- One in eight will be stricken with Alzheimer's
- Alzheimer's is the 6th leading cause of death in our country
- ADAKC is completing construction of their new 12,000 square foot facility in the Northwest
- They oversee an average of 37 AD sufferers a say, near their capacity of 45 at their present 5,000 square foot facility
- Cost is $10 an hour. They offer financial assistance to those in need
- The ADAKC will be holding a fund raiser featuring Richard Marx, Thursday, October 13th at the Fox Theater.

- Congratulations to Sue Benham who has now has her first granddaughter. Nora Paige Benham was born to son Sam and daughter in law, Lauren.
- New president, Dave Morton, replaced Sheryl Barbich's five Paul Harris Fellow pins and her past president pin that were stolen in a recent home burglary.
- A pair of season tickets to the Guitar Master's series, generously donated by Rick Kreiser, went for $1000 at our Waterman Foundation fund raiser at Luigi's.
