SUPPORT OUR ROTARY FOUNDATIONS FOR A YEAR OF ACTION AND IMPACT!
As Rotarians, we are leaders connecting for extraordinary good –both in our community and around the world. Together we are eradicating polio and malaria, bringing fresh water to rural villages worldwide to stop the spread of disease, and helping our neighbors in need with housing, healthy foods, and educational opportunities.
Once a year we ask you to fulfill your membership obligations and take action by making two gifts that will impact the world. One is to the Seattle Rotary Service Foundation (SRSF). The other is to The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Thank you for taking action now to help our club have a powerful and positive impact on our world.

Making "cents" of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency
February 13 at Noon
Grand Hyatt, 721 Pine St.
Blockchain technology and its many applications, including cryptocurrency, have the potential to revolutionize the manner in which data is gathered, stored, and analyzed. Seattle is a leader in the development and regulation of this new, transformative technology. Next week we will hear from three of our local experts who are deeply engaged in implementing blockchain technology from a legal, regulatory, and applications point of view.
Dax Hansen and Joe Cutler of Perkins Coie are among the nation’s leading experts in the regulation of blockchain technology. Chris Spanton is the senior blockchain architect at T-Mobile, leading the effort at T-Mobile to implement blockchain technology to improve efficiency and to better serve its subscribers. These experts will help demystify blockchain and its many practical applications, including Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
NEW! Guests, visiting Rotarians, and members who are not on the meal plan can now purchase their lunch in advance. Online sales end the Friday before each luncheon.
If you miss the cutoff, guests can still register by contacting Mariah at mariah@seattlerotary.org.
Members are still welcome to purchase their lunch at the door.
If you plan to bring a prospective member as a guest, please contact Caroline at caroline@seattlerotary.org
President Cindy opened our meeting celebrating the Lunar New Year and the Year of The Earth Pig! We were asked to connect with our table guests that shared our Chinese Zodiac animal during the Greet and Grin. Trish Bostrom, who said she did not have any pig songs in her repertoire, led us in This Land is Your Land. Paul Ishii reflected on the Year of the Pig and mentioned some famous “pigs,” a list of other culture’s new year’s celebrations and that his family has two dogs, a rat, and a horse, and ended with, "happy Lunar New Year!"
This week's Recruiter Rewards prize was donated by Kevin Crane and Crane Jewelers
Crane Jewelers offers a unique collection of custom designed and antique pieces, as well as art from around the world. With thirty-five years of experience in goldsmithing, platinumsmithing, and stone setting, Kevin Crane, the owner, specializes in custom design.

Members, family, and guests are invited to a winter sports outing. Attendees will meet in the Denny Creek Lodge at Alpental at 11:00 am for some fellowship cheer and no host lunch, then spend the afternoon skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing, sledding, or simply enjoying lunch together at one of the most beautiful mountain places in the Cascades.
Rotarians from across the district will be teaming up to adopt sections of the Interurban trail for this fun, hands-on service event. Contact our club's event lead, Eric Christensen, to participate. Stay tuned for more details!
For the first time, Rotary District 5080 (Spokane area clubs) and District 5030 (Seattle area clubs) will Come Together in Spokane for a joint district conference May 16-19, 2019. Keynote speakers include the nationally renowned business speaker, Angelo Lombardo, Rotary International President, Barry Rassin, and the legendary Bill Gates reflecting on Rotary's partnership with the Gates Foundation. Workshops will help to mold new thinking. Socials and home visits will introduce you to new friends and Rotary partners. This event will sell out, so register soon!
Unforgettable moments are made at the Rotary International Convention, a place where the Rotary spirit fills the air with a level of energy and enthusiasm you can’t find anywhere else. This is the event where Rotarians unite and take action to create true and lasting change in the world. The 2019 event will be held in Hamburg, Germany June 1-5.
The Puget Sound Rotary Network is a great resource for Rotarians to share their business with others and learn about products and services offered by other Rotarians in the region.
