Alexandra Mummery
Introduced on January 27, 2016 by Tom Jaffa

I am happy to introduce Alexandra Joan Mummery with the classification – Retired: Marketing & Business Development.
Thanks to her proposer and #4 Rotarian, husband Trent Mummery and supporters Ralph Davis and Cathy Gibson.

Alex is a very passionate person and very excited to be part of our Club.  She had great success during her business career which included some underwriting, working with financial wealth management and real estate. Alex was born in Tacoma into an Army family; spent her first 6 years in Australia and then made stops in Salt Lake, Florida and Hawaii before coming back to Washington where she graduated from Hoquiam HS.  She loves living near water, which is one of the things she loves most about Seattle, which is “beautiful, happy, cozy, clean and green.”

An early success came through her participation on the HS Debate Team where her team went on to win “league” competition. She is proud to have worked to put herself through Western Washington University, where she attained a degree in English Literature & Writing with a minor in Art & Art History. She then packed up her VW Beetle with all of her belongings, moved to Seattle and began her career, ultimately retiring as Director of Business Development and Client Services in a prestigious real estate company in the Bay Area.

She met her husband in a local watering hole on Queen Anne observing him to be “safe & kind” and sharing her passion about America’s greatness. Trent surprised her on her birthday, by proposing to her at a Sonics game where he had the jumbotron say “happy birthday, will you marry me?” Trent, who is characterized as a “still water guy,” sure has game!  They are the proud parents of Gracie (8) who she describes as exactly like her and Trent, Jr. (7) who is very much like his Dad.

When asked about the most exciting things in her life, she replied, “embarking on adventure with Trent and beating cancer twice.”  As Queen for a day, she would like to help everyone to grow old to 110.  Her passions are loving family and friends, art, reading & writing, creative things, marketing, helping people reach their potential and making things work and work better. Hobbies include: gardening, sewing and art.  She has been active with organizing events at St. James Cathedral and other organizations. Their family, which lives in Magnolia, has included: 8 laying hens, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 3 gold fish and 2 guinea pigs.  Her favorite book is Paradise Lost and she, as a self described, foodie loves Italian food, pasta, red meat and caviar.

A career highlight includes: her success with building a BDG (Business Development Group). Heroes include: Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan and Trent.  Wow, Trent – you are sure in good company! Her friends would describe her as faithful, kind, supportive and funny. When asked why she was so excited to be in our Club, she gave several reasons:  the great speakers, opportunities in volunteerism and giving back – “because Seattle #4 has the power to do major philanthropy”.  She is looking forward to doing everything she can to help grow Rotary “in quality.” She is very excited about children’s causes and many of our initiatives.

Several words came up during our interview: children’s protection, driven, resourceful, volunteerism, passion and a word her husband uses “nuanced.”  Please help me welcome Alex Mummery with the classification Retired Marketing & Busines Development.
