Healing the Children Guatemala Auditory project

Ann Anderst the Executive Director of the Oregon and Western Washington Chapter of Healing the Children talked to the Mill Creek Rotary Club at the October 22, lunch meeting. Ann provided a history of the Healing the Children organization and her background. The Audiology Medical Team headed to Guatemala in November.

 

Over $20,000 was raised at the 2014 Mill Creek Rotary Auction last spring to support the Healing the Children Auditory project. The funds were used to purchase hearing aids and new surgical equipment,

 

The team was in Guatemala two weeks with the week one team of 27 included 2 surgeons, 2 audiologists, 2 anaesthetists, 1 pedeatrician, 6 surgical nurses, 6 team support , 3 Guatemalan audio techs, and 4 translators They saw 390 children. 60 received surgery, 81 were fit for new hearing aids, 40 were follow ups on prior care.

 

The second week in San Benito there were 17 volunteers seeing 152 children  resulting in 31 surgeries, 41 hearing aids and 20 follow ups with previous patients.
