History & Future

Overview:  The RCOB Foundation is an important part of our club.   The presentation will provide a brief history of the Foundation and plans for its growth.  Additionally, information on charitable giving and estate planning will be provided.   Dennis Williams will provide an overview of an Inter-vivos trust, that is made during the donor’s lifetime;  and Katherine Deets will provide an overview of a Testamentary trust, which his established on one’s death, usually as part of a will.

Bio:  Our own Don Anderson was born and raised in Sedalia, Missouri, and moved to Mississippi at age 15 but never developed an southern accent.   An ophthalmologist, he completed pre-med at Mississippi State University; and graduated from University of Mississippi School of Medicine where he also did his internship. He served in the U.S. Navy as a flight surgeon for 4 years; and completed his residency at the Ohio State University School of Medicine.  Moving to Bellingham in 1973, he joined the Northwest Eye Clinic where he practiced with Bob Kaiser (Fred’s dad) and John Hodge.  He has been with RCOB since 1979 when he was sponsored by Don Haggen – and has been playing piano for us ever since. NW Eye Clinic welcomed Fred Kaiser to the practice in 1990;  Don retired 10 years later.   He has been married to his wife,  Alice Racer,  for 50 years.  They have two children – a daughter, Gretchen, who is a Manager in Customer Operations with EverBank, and a son, David, who is a Pilot with Alaska Airlines.   He is currently a Lector and acolyte at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and plays piano for the Maple Alley Inn breakfast for the homeless.
