November 17th.
This week our featured presenter was Hon. Judge Trevor Armstrong providing us with some insight as to the life of a Superior Court Judge.
He has now been on the bench for 5 years. How time flies. The Supreme Court of BC has 85 judges and they spend 8 weeks a year on the
road visiting smaller locations to hear local cases.A Judge's job is to make a fair impartial decision on the case at hand solely based on Law.
Cases cover a wide range from Family , Business to Criminal.
Over the past few years new processes have been introduced to better serve the populace and administer Justice.
Community courts:  A neighborhood-focused problem solving court. Vancouver has the Vancouver Downtown Community Court, the first of its kind in Canada. It brings together justice, health and social services in one location. The court tests new ways to reduce crime and improve public safety providing quicker response than the general court system and with the holistic approach aims to benefit the offenders, victims and the local community.
Restorative Justice: This is an approach to justice emphasizes repairing the harm caused by criminal behaviour.Victims take an active role in the process, while offenders are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions, "to repair the harm they've done—by apologizing, returning stolen money, or community service".
Trevor a Past President of our club presented a wide ranging talk on the justice system ,followed by a Q & A session.
