DONATION TO THE SURREY FOOD BANK

Marilyn Herrmann ,Executive Director of The Surrey Food Bank gave us an update on the Food Bank.

They serve  between 250-300 Families a day and distribute about 4 milion pounds of food a year. 41% of the supplies go to children and babies.  All funding is by     donations they receive no direct govt.  support. The food bank started in 1983 it was planned to be a short term fix and they have been  trying to close it since but the need keeps increasing rather than decreasing as originally contemplated. Marilyn showed us a map  of where all the clients come from and they are all over  Surrey not just in the  expected low income areas. At the conclusion of her presentation and a lively Q & A .   President Elect Ajay Caleb presented  a check for $2500 from our BC Gaming funds.
