Guests and visiting Rotarians:

We had visiting Rotarians Roger Gurr (Coquitlam Sunrise) and Barrie Seaton (Port Coquitlam) with us.  Also, Yolanda Broderick, wife of our George Broderick.  Our Guest Speaker was Dale Alberston from Access.

Great also to see our "snowbirders" returning north..we missed you all!

Random Acts of Kindness Week..Jeannie took the pot this month.  Trudy reported that she used the $25 pot (with some top up) to buy 6 pet related books and donated that to the 2nd annual HWSS PetFest. It was lots of fun, Mayor Mike was a judge and the young organizers were so appreciative.  Each book contained a Rotary label and the package was given out as one of the door prizes.  Proceeds went to a cat shelter in Maple Ridge...Katie's Place and the Coquitlam Animal Shelter..which serves the pets of Port Moody.
Cleone will tell us about her RAK when she and Lois and Vida present to the Club in May.

Guest Speaker:  Dale Albertson, Executive Director of Access, an education and community development working in Africa, presented a fascinating model for international service projects that aims to reduce the challenges of cross-cultural communication and work.  He explained how they use certain assumptions and techniques to encourage local people to become involved in leading and partnering with an outside NGO.  He also showed an short but informative video about their own work and updated us on the school that we helped former member Dale Shea's daughter Ferron build...it has become successful beyond all early dreams..so way to go Ferron!

Trudy's thanks: To Dan G and Ann for taking her along to the AGM of Rotary Help..it was fascinating and such a great look into the complexities of the organization...also got to sit beside Jim McGrandles and so had a great visit with him.

Another big recognition and appreciation to Peter and the SFPP team who met last Wednesday evening...great work to that amazing team too!!
