Stories
It’s a beautiful sunny Southern California day, no blizzard watch, nor tsunami warning. Greeted by our lovely new member Su Weng, Rotarians strolled into the picture perfect Palos Verdes Country Club.
Prestige president Jim Hartman rang the bell right around 12:15PM, who also provided a hearty invocation. The Pledge of Allegiant was performed by graceful Derald Sidler, after Norton found the flag. Assisted by our famous pianist John Schuricht,  Sacha Ohara lead the patriotic song of “American the Beautiful”. Dr. Mel Schrier introduced our 3 guests, Tracy Baum – a dental hygienist and Cypress College teacher, Pastor John Gathje and beautiful Christine Chui who was a member of San Marino Club, and her membership transfer request had been granted. The welcome song was conducted by Jonathan Udewitz. President Jim had a hard time to get the crowd back to order.
There are several club announcements:
1. Sophia will not attend the International Exchange Student Celebration dinner on February 21st night at Carolyn Lehr’s house, she will come to talk in one of our Wednesday Night Live.
2. Second Annual South Bay Beer & Wine Festival will be held on Sunday, May 3rd, 1-5PM. President Hartman announced that there’s special discount tickets for Rotarian member of $20, but Rotarians are asked to volunteer at least one hour for the event. Presale ticket is $55 till April 4th. Silent Auction items are needed and they are tax deductible, President Hartman requests 100% participation from our club, it’s our biggest fund raising event besides Concord. Virginia Butler suggests cash donation is welcome to purchase silent auction items
3. Harmony Concert is coming soon on March 1st in Noris Theatre, ticket is $30 on sale now, and it will be sold out like last year. John Schurist proclaimed it’s the best concert performed by High School Orchestra from both PV High and Peninsula High.
4. Julia Parton announced that Trump fails us again, our next Concord will be held in Los Verdes Golf Club and it will be another wonderful event.
Allan Colman introduced our speaker Jeff Cozad, who is a local guy graduated from UCLA, and obtained his law degree from Pepperdine University. Jeff talked about his journey of dealing with his brother Duke who had brain cancer and suffered from Asperger’s Syndrome.
The meeting is adjourned by President Jim right on the dot of 1:30PM.
