Valentines Day piano music by John Schurich – all love songs beginning with “There, I’ve Said It Again.”
President Suzy Zimmerman opened the meeting. She presented us with a Valentine treat. So lovely!
Tim Foley presented an inspiring Invocation; Kjell Hellberg did a heartfelt Pledge of Allegiance. Les Fishman led us in a rousing rendition of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”
Eileen Hupp had no guests to introduce and John Stillo did not have to Lead the “Welcome Song”. June 14, 2014 is the date set for the Demotion Dinner announced by our President. Greg Sparkman announced the dedication of the Binoculars at the Interpretive Center on March 1st at 11:30 am and requested the presence of our Rotary members as this is a gift from our club.
A short auction was held for tickets to “ShreK” at the Norris Theatre.
Winners were Hal, Kim and Greg O’Brien.
Jim Harman- Nominating Committee –requests for four members at large. Greg O’Brien has secured three homes for our second Progressive Dinner. He will be speaking at PETS regarding our product which is “Our Rotary“. Notable quotes he referred to were from Eileen Hupp “I love my Rotary” and A.J. Johnson, “When I die, I want my Rotary to sing “The Welcome Song”." Greg also announced Chadwick will attend on Interact Day. Gary Tossel suggested that our Rotary establish an award in honor of Taco Bell founder Glen Bell who was a member of our club. Eileen Hupp will be on his committee.
The Guest Speaker:Dr Mark Lurie M.D. F.A. C.C ,Medical Director, Cardiology Program Development, The Melanie and Richard Lindquist Cardiovascular Institute at Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
New guidelines include the most dramatic and controversial changes in 25 years. The guidelines in the clinical trial refer to assessing risk for cardiovascular disease, lifestyle management (diet and exercise) and obesity treatment.
