LA5 College Scholarships

In the 2015 academic year, the Rotary Club of Los Angeles will award $158,000 to more than 20 local high school graduating seniors to assist them toward achieving a college undergraduate degree program or technical studies.  This is the largest college scholarship program among Los Angeles service clubs. There are four types of scholarships for graduating high school seniors:

1. Close, Coppersmith, Barr, Kirk and Walch Family Scholarships; 2. LA5 Rotary Scholarships, including one Randal Simmons 3. Past Presidents Scholarships; and
4. Career/Technical Education Scholarships.

All scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, financial need, community and school service and personal qualities and strengths.  A panel of Rotary Club of Los Angeles (LA5) members will make the award selections.

In early March, 2015, LA5 Rotarians will interview more than 25 elite high school students in Los Angeles for our LA5 Scholarships.  These students will have survived the rigorous process of being evaluated on their academic achievements, college entrance test scores, commitment to their community and their achievements.  The final hurdle is the face-to-face interview with the Rotarians as scholarship recipients are selected.

These students never fail to impress and, often, we are fortunate to be able to build mentoring relationships with these students that last a lifetime.  Many will be the first to attend college and have overcome tremendous odds.  We invite all of our LA5 members to participate in the interview process.
