Winter Carnival Skating Party at Ben Walters Park

The Rotary Club of Homer-Kachemak Bay, the City of Homer, and McDonald's are co-sponsoring an ice skating party for Friday, Feb. 15th at Ben Walters Park. The ice directly In front of Ben Walters Park is 16-17 inches thick.  ( No danger of anyone falling through the ice)  The surface is frozen and mostly skateable (pond ice) but with trip or rough surface hazards.   We have permission for overflow parking at the (across the street parking) Court House parking area.  We expect to have two bonfires, one at the big kiosk and one on the ice (don’t worry, I’ve got it covered-we won’t melt a hole in the ice). Cutting hot dog sticks for “cook your own”.

The Homer-Kachemak Bay Rotary Club and the City Parks Advisory Committee are working together to sponsor a Winter Carnival Skating Party at Ben Walters Park / Beluga Lake, Feb 15, 4-7:00 pm.  This is a free family oriented event with music, lights, free hotdogs and hot chocolate.

The Ice will be measured and boundaries will be established a a safety measure.

Of course, this depends on freezing temperatures and not puddles.  If we have the usual rainy winter carnival weather, we will try for the folowing weekend.  Helpers to monitor food / drink table are welcome.  We have fire monitor folks.
