Students of King Traditional Elementary School are leading with character and inspiration in support of Rotary Club of Abbotsford’s Starfish Pack Program for children in need.

(Abbotsford, BC):  Students of King Traditional Elementary School today kicked off their key chains for kids fundraiser where the students are making and selling backpack pulls/key chains to help raise money and support for the Starfish Pack Program (starfishpacks.com). When asked where the inspiration for this came from, Principal Peggy Antifaeff, shared that this initiative formed part of their B.C. Schools of Character commitment to intentionally promote and inspire character attributes such as empathy and generosity.

Antifaeff also added that, “This year our ‘Character Crew’ of approximately sixty Grade 2&3 students have committed to working on group projects that will inspire positive character in others.  Our students recognize that they are part of a school community that generally speaking, do not lack for basic necessities of life such as food, clothing and shelter. The students enthusiastically chose the Starfish Pack Program because their efforts will help other children in Abbotsford who are less fortunate. Our goal is to sell $525 worth of keychains in order to sponsor one student with a Starfish Pack for a year”.

Principal Antifaeff, went on to express gratitude to the Rotary Club of Abbotsford and their partnership with the Abbotsford Food Bank, but specifically to Bruce Beck, for coming to KTES to show the Starfish Pack to the students and explain how the program works.  It is very apparent that this school community is incredibly supportive of the charitable initiatives taking place at King Traditional. Last week, when Principal Antifaeff mentioned this project at the Parent Advisory Council meeting, immediately following, two parents decided to get involved and one of them was planning to sponsor a Starfish Pack.

Our goal is to sell $525 worth of keychains so that we are able to support one student for the entire school year. Will you also be inspired and follow ‘a child’s lead’ by supporting the Starfish Pack Program to help provide nutritional food each week for children in need?
