Nina Kemppel, member and head of Alaska Humanities Forum will present overview of the Anchorage Centennial celeb Sandy Harper, Cyrano’s Theatre, presenting one of the Centennial projects, Cyrano’s 10 weeks of theater with a different program each week featuring each of the 10 decades of Anchorage history. Darl Schaaf of Art Services North will “add color” to this presentation. Each week for ten weeks, Cyrano's Theatre Company will be presenting a different decade in Anchorage history in the form of a living newspaper, highlighting the headline stories and colorful characters of the day, with authentic music of the period and film clips, etc. There will also be fun extra -added attractions such as the Antique Auto Mushers of Alaska, who will park a vintage car of that particular decade each week in front of Cyrano's Off Center PlayHouse which appropriately enough is located in the historic 1915 Building at the corner of 4th and D street. Come hear about some of the fun events that will help Anchorage celebrate our Centennial. |

We will be getting the history of the planet Walk from Rotarians and then stopping at some Rotarian homes for snack during our journey to Jupiter. Julius Brecht will narrate at each station along the way. We will be walking so you might want to bring snacks in a backpack or drop them off at the reception homes before the event. Or skip the intergalactic tour and head right to Niel Thomas’ home (1521 W. 15th Ave; 5:30-7:00 p.m.) to start the party. The party will progress to Diane Fejes' home (1634 Hidden Lane; 7:00-8:30 p.m.). Please sign up to bring an appetizer or drink for Niel's home, or a dessert or drink for Diane's home to share with all. |

Picnic, boat rides, tubing! Rotarians who live on Nancy Lake are willing to open their homes for an afternoon of fun, 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. We'll start at Lee and Janet Thibert's home, Tom Boling and others are willing to provide boat rides around the lake, stopping at the homes of other Rotarians, weather permitting. If you have life jackets you can bring, let us know that as well. Take the Glenn Highway north to the Parks Highway. Drive through Wasilla and past the Big Lake turn-off to Mile 66.5 Parks Highway. Turn left off the highway where you see the Hatcher Pass Polaris dealership. Take an immediate right in front of the Polaris dealership onto Frontage Road. Lee's house is the first driveway on the left. (If you find yourself on Buckingham Palace Road you turned the wrong way.) Phone is 907-495-4074. Alaska Youth Rugby Club was founded in 2014 and since then has established programs at Goldenview Middle School, Eagle River, Mountain View and the Downtown Park Strip. The Club’s motto is: “Pick up the ball and run with it,” offering Alaska youth the opportunity to learn, play and enjoy the experience of rugby in a safe, fun and rewarding environment. Golf outing to get to know your fellow Rotarians better. Best ball format. Pay your own green fees for 18 holes. We will make up the foursomes. If you don’t have clubs, rental sets are available. Friday August 7th,We reserved five tee times starting at 10:04. Currently there is a 10% chance of rain and a 71 degree forecast for next Friday. Reserve your spot(s) by Wednesday at Noon August 5th. We need to release all unused tee times Wed afternoon to avoid cancellation charges. Enjoy summer and make new Rotary friendships. Bring a prospective member and introduce them to Rotary. |

Our first golf outing was a lot of fun. Here is our second golf outing for you to get to know your fellow Rotarians better! We run a best ball format, and player teams are set by the committee so we have a mix of skills on each team. Pay your own green fees for 18 holes and either walk or ride. Rental clubs are available. Bring $1's if you want an extra edge on the green. We allow you to use as many $1 bills (US) as needed for a Gimmee. Each player matches the total needed for each hole they use the option. All proceeds go to our Youth Exchange program. We reserved five tee times starting at 2:20 pm. Currently a 10% chance of rain for next Thursday. Reserve your spots by Tuesday at 5 pm. We release all unused tee times on Wednesday to avoid cancelation charges. Come enjoy our last few weeks of summer and make new Rotary friendships. Bring a prospective member and introduce them to Rotary!

Adam Rose-Levy will be speaking about his experience filming for No Barriers Warriors, a non-profit program that empowers veterans with disabilities to break through barriers, find their inner purpose and contribute their very best to the world. Adam recently filmed a documentary of the No Barriers Warriors capstone program, in which a group of veterans set out to climb Gannett Peak, a 13,800 ft. peak on September 11. Adam will share video footage of the expedition and talk about what he learned while accompanying veterans on this transformative journey. A second generation Alaskan, Adam recently graduated from Chapman University in May. He currently works as a freelance photographer and filmmaker. |
