Stephen Marc Breedlove, Barnett Rosenberg Professor of Neuroscience, is internationally recognized for his work on sexual differentiation of the brain and spinal cord as well as the activation of plasticity in the adult nervous system. He holds joint appointments with the Departments of Integrative Biology and Psychology.Breedlove received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Yale University and his M.A. in psychology and Ph.D. in physiological psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Before joining MSU, Breedlove was a professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1982-2002.
Breedlove has published extensively—more than 200 research papers and five college-level textbooks. He is the recipient of several awards, including the Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation and an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellowship. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
