The meeting in the Winnetka Community House was opened at 12:15 by President Tom Nash followed by “Thought for the Day” by Tony Kambich. The pledge of allegiance was led by Tom Nash.

Lunch was served and the meeting started about 12:35 with 24 of our 52 members in attendance. The guests were Rick Börjesson and Carole Barthel, (a Rotarian and wife of Chuck Norton).  Representing the Park District this week was John Muno, and representing The Winnetka Youth Organization was Christina Gikas.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  President Tom announced first that Ms. Gikas is also a new member and read the Rotarian pledge. He then presented her with her member’s badge. The audience gave Ms. Gikas a standing ovation.

In turn Ms. Gikas announced there will be an Open House at the WYO at 1-3PM on Sunday Jan.28. She invited all to come see the totally rebuilt WYO space in the basement of the Community House.

Heidi Sibert reminded us that the Kids Against Hunger food packing free-for-all takes place soon and we still need volunteers. Barb Tubekis also spoke on the event which she has organized now for some years.

HAPPY BUCKS Robert Mardirossian gave some Happy Bucks in celebration of our new member, Christina Gikas. John Thomas contributed in recognition of the WYO being back in business after recovering from the November accidental tsunami and flooding.

DIG & GRIN: Substituting for Heather Higgins, Bob Baker favored the crowd with several anecdotes of a semi-humorous nature.

SPEAKER: The speaker was Hilary Rose, an author, photo-stylist and field editor for a variety of national interior design magazines. Several years ago, she wrote and produced an interiors book with photographer Jenifer Jordan, Been There Shot That.  She describes it as a playful mix of design advice, inspiration and humor.

Ms. Rose explained what it entails to be a “field editor”, and then focused on her approach to photo styling. Showing images on slides, she talked about styling (accessorizing) bookcases, coffee tables, mantels, etc. Also discussed were good ideas she has seen for making one’s home live better and be more personal. She believes a successful home is functional, comfortable, beautiful or interesting in some way, and reflects the people that live there.

There was then a lively Q&A after her presentation

The meeting was closed at 1:30 after a recitative of the 4-way pledge.
