Meeting recap from 5/10/16

Greetings fellow Rotarians,
Here is a brief recap from today's meeting:
Announcements:
- We welcomed a visitor today from Addison Trail High School. Community Liaison Marco Gasca, spoke briefly about the annual Salt Creek clean-up. This event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 14 from 8am-12pm, pending the weather. Marco thanked our club for sending students to RYLA. He also shared information about a Latino Fiesta scheduled for Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 11am-3pm.
- President Pavelchik announced that the Villa Park Police Explorer Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday, May 14 at the VFW from 8am-1:30pm. For more details, please visit the Village of Villa Park's website: http://www.invillapark.com/Calendar.aspx?EID=1367
- Next week's meeting (Tuesday, May 17, 2016) will be held at School District 45's district office. The meeting will begin at 12:15pm. The address is: 255 West Vermont St. in Villa Park. Please use entrance #1, located at the northeast corner of the building. Door #1 is the Admin offices.
- Bill Schewe offered up an idea for a suggestion for a social event. He proposed an event at Hofbräuhaus Chicago in Rosemont. There is a band that plays weekdays at 5pm and weekends at 6pm. Reservations are required on Saturday nights.
- Two raffle drawings were held for today and next week. The winners were...Jan for this week and Jay for next week. Congratulations to you both!
Presentation:
Today's presentation was given by Sue Linden from the Salvation Army in Oakbrook Terrace. She spoke about the organization's day camp, which will be held from June 13 - July 29, 2016. The camp runs $23 per child, per day. There is also a before care and after care program for working families. The Salvation Army also partners with the Elmhurst Jaycees to host a pancake breakfast. This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, May 14 from 7:30am-11am a the Elmhurst Family Restaurant located at 441 West Lake Street. She spoke about partnerships that are available to our club, including the ability to sponsor a kettle during the holidays. They are also hosting a charity golf outing on Friday, September 23. The check was presented to Sue at today's meeting.
