Lake in the Hills
Ccorca
Cusco
Peru

9 club members, along with 2 rotarians and a spouse from other clubs in our district (6440) head to Cusco Peru on a service trip to finish a project we started last year. We will be working in Ccorca;  it is the only rural, Quechua district in the province of Cusco, with a population of approximately 2,500 spread across 8 small communities. Nestled high in the Andes at an altitude of almost 12,000 ft, Ccorca represents what is left of Andean culture and way of life – rural farming communities in danger of losing their cultural heritage and traditional way of life to the increasingly globalized culture of modern Peru. Ccorca is the poorest district in the Cusco region with 95% of the population being self-sufficient farmers. Last year, in partnership with the Rotary Club Julio J Delgado, District 6440, the people of Ccorca and the Rotary Club of Lake in the Hills, we started a building whose purpose is to be a mother & child wellness center and has since been expanded to be a community center as well. Work has continued since we left but we have the heartfelt pleasure of going back and teaming up again with Rotary Club Julio J Delgado and the people of Ccorca to finish it.
