The Day's Program

David Israel, Senior Managing Director in the Investment Advisory group of Mesirow Financial, presented his take on the economy and advice for investing for retirement.  He gave an example of a couple in their 60's who want to save to supplement social security and retirement, pay for their grandchildren's college education, and leave a legacy for their children.  Interest rates are historically low, but should inch up, although there is now pressure in Japan and Europe to keep them low or even negative.  Hence, the stock market although volatile last fall and the first couple of months this year is still a viable investment.  While what is going on at the macro level is important, Mesirow focuses on the micro when advising individuals.
