Club member Joann Gordon is a Family Coach for children with behavioral issues and special needs. She first taught special needs children with emotional and behavioral problems.
With a Masters degrees in Social work and Early Childhood development, she got into her current career because of her son and his needs. He has an individualized education program or IEP after he had a manic psychotic break and was hospitalized. So she learned how to work the system and help other families.
Joann likes helping families through their crisis better than teaching. She wants to help those children become more independent and have more self esteem. She coaches families in what is important, how to address self esteem issues and dangerous behavior.
She usually tries to help when the children are young as early intervention is very important.
Thanks to Martha Gray and Paul Munk for their contribution to this week’s bulletin.
