Namrita Narula, a fourteen year old sophomore at Highland Park High School, spoke to the Club about her project, Seeds of Knowledge. She created the program to help children enjoy cultivating and eating fresh, nutritious food.

The mission of the project is to educate students about the importance of nutrition and to provide them with a unique and engaging gardening experience.  The goals are to increase access to and consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits, to provide children with kid-friendly tools and the information they need in order to make healthful food choices, to engage participants in hands-on-gardening so as to develop a connection to the earth and their food, and to empower students with the knowledge to make healthful choices.

Namrita described how she works with Highland Park Community Nursery School and Day Care Center, Moraine Township Food Pantry Garden and the North Suburban Special Recreation Association. The Park District of Highland Park has also loaned a community garden plot to Seeds of Knowledge.

A very special thanks to Larry Block for help with this week's bulletin!
