Any form of art is a form of power; it has impact, it can affect change – it can not only move us, it makes us move. (Ossie Davis)

The Day's Program
Derrick Harden is the Chief of Staff to the President of the College of Lake County, maintaining that position for the past four years. Before joining CLC, Mr. Harden served in several senior executive roles for the City Colleges of Chicago from 2006 to 2012.

Currently CLC has 24,787 students enrolled making it the 3rd largest enrollment in Illinois Community Colleges. With 56% of students in "development programs" requiring students to take pre-college preparatory courses , CLC faces unique challenges. Half of their students graduate and transfer to a 4 year college, while many of the balance of students attend periodically to add to their professional resumés.

With an active Q & A from the floor our speaker was able to describe CLC as serving a specific population during a period of limited state financial aid. CLC's concentration is a focus on career credentials and career options serving a much larger population that builds academic credits and learning skills as their economic background or employment schedule allows.

Holiday Party 2016
The evening was cold - a foretelling of the week to come. But there was warmth in friendship, spirits and plenty of scrumptious food at the home of Bobbie and Len Tenner on the 12th. The home itself is a showcase of museum glass pieces, so once you had a chance to ogle and decide which were three or four of your favorites you could socialize. Those of us in attendance nibbled and sipped while we mulled over who the five tots were in the Baby Picture Contest - four were present and Martha Gray bested everyone - stumping everyone except her husband. Among the Ugly Ties (8 in all), Len won in a show of hands when it came down to a tie of the Ugly Ties! Dramatic, right? (My husband was very glad his only got two votes and quickly put his back in the closet when we got home.) Thank you Bobbie and Len for opening your home! Everyone had a wonderful time, and those of you who didn't make it, you were in our hearts!
