Announcements:
Martha Gray reported that 14 year Ethan from Northern Ireland is looking for a host family for a couple weeks. His family will host an exchange teen from the host family. Penny Levin-Fields has a similar request: a 15 year old Palestinian girl is looking for a host family so that she can attend HPHS for a semester. President Paul Munk reminded the Board that there is a meeting immediately following this meeting. He also thanked Joanne Gordon and Carolyn Cerf for setting up a great Bocce Ball fellowship last Saturday night. Frank Schwermin announced that he is finally going of the Honor Flight on April 8th.

Mark Mulert, Research and Analytics Director for Emmi Solutions told us how Emmi Solutions is engaging patients to take a more active role in their care causing hospitals to improve HCAHPS scores and increase quality outcomes. HCAHPS stands for Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, which is also known as the CAHPS Hospital Survey. Healthcare providers contract with Emmi Solutions to make surgical and medical information easier for patients to understand and act on. To that end, Emmi develops programs to educate patients about the rewards and risk of surgical procedures. As the head of analytics, Mark works closely with Emmi clients (healthcare providers, hopsital, etc.) to quantify the impact of Emmi's interactive patient programs and its patented technology. He's conducted numerous research studies and collaborated on case studies with organizations of all sizes and shared some of his insights with us. For example, 80% of the information doctors tell their patients about a proposed medical procedure is lost before the patient returns to the parking lot after visiting the doctor's office.
Many thanks to Pete Koukos for this week's bulletin!
