A reminder about our mini-fundraiser at Beelow's Restaurant on Tuesday, May 3rd. Drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Bartender tips will be donated to the Club (Club members will work as bartenders), and 25% of the proceeds from dinner afterward will be donated to the Club. If you plan to stay for dinner, reservations are required. Bring your friends!

President Plouché said that given Beelow’s event is on a Tuesday, we will not meet on Monday May 2.

Our Annual Fundraiser is set for Saturday May 14th at the Birchwood Club from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There are some changes for evening: the evening includes dinner with wine and a cash bar  as well as music designed to keep your toes tapping and perhaps twirl around the floor a time or two!  Tickets for the event are $75 each. Raffle tickets are being distributed and also are $100 each. Like last year, each member is responsible for four tickets, so sell some to your friends!  Tables are available for purchase, so invite your friends and relatives. Single attendance is perfectly acceptable as well. All are welcome!  Contact Joanne Gordon at 847-338-2671 or joanne@familycoachingconsultants.com for Event and Raffle tickets.

Happy Dollars
TABU related happy dollars received from Bill Pigati, Fred Orkin and others. A special note was made of the fact that a former Interact/TABU student Omar Rodriquez, is Vice Principal at Antioch High School. Pete Koukos suggested bringing in Omar to speak to the Club. Len Tenner noted that he met a former employee of his now at Antioch HS. He helped the TABU group with
some computer issues while we were there. Joe Lolli gave because he was happy that Ted Less is out of the hospital.

The Day's Program
Our guest speaker Cheryl Vinikoor, is a forensic nurse at Highland Park Hospital. Cheryl discussed a program called SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) which provides victims of rape and sexual assault with expert, confidential medical care and emotional support. The role of the SANE nurse is to provide the initial forensic examination and sensitive patient focused care. The SANE will stay with the patient for the whole process which could take 5-6 hours to complete.  This is a new program in which Highland Park and Condell Hospitals are in the forefront.

She noted that such assaults are considerably down (less than thirty to forty now) from a few years ago and credits it with extensive information being given at the High School and College levels.  Cheryl also credited the hard work of Lake County's Attorney General, Mike Waller, for bringing this program to the hospitals here. She also gave the Zacharias Center commendation for its outstanding 24/7 assistance with the difficulties associated with these matters to the victims.
Cheryl Vinikoor explains to the Club how essential the SANE program is to to victims of rape and sexual assault.
