Ken Bellis from Search, Inc. spoke to us about his organization that serves adults with developmental disabilities.  Search serves to integrate these individuals into a lifestyle similar to the non-developmentally disabled.  Specific services include education, independent living, housing, evaluation, counseling, job training, trips, medical care, employment, talent development and in-home visits.  Ken emphasized Outstanding Services and Life-Changing Experiences.

Search has facilities in 4 locations in the Chicago area - Chicago, Evanston, Mt. Prospect, and Waukegan.  Currently 414 people are receiving services daily and 100 of the clients have full or part-time employment through the program.  There are 29 group live-in homes with 172 residents.Image

While Search is an acronym for Special Education Association for Retarded Children, it has significantly expanded its scope of services since its inception in 1968.  Autism is only one area of focus.

To emphasize the broad spectrum of services provided, Ken mentioned that some of the clients have sold their artwork for hundreds of dollars and could rightly be called legitimate artists.
