On the second day of this year's J&K ride a fellow peddling traveler came upon one of our rest stops.  In the true spirit of Rotary he was invited in for a drink and some protein.  Turned out this well equipped biker wasn't out for just another Saturday ride... not by a long shot!

Curtis Flock is several years into a multi-year biking adventure that's truly quite a story.  Curtis hitched his rig to to the mighty J&K train and rode with our crew for a while, finishing with the rest of Team Sunrise on Sunday at the triumphant Finish Line celebration.    He was thrilled to have made new friends in Santa Cruz and was most appreciative for the hospitality he received.

Here's a great note from Curtis:

Hello, Curtis Flock, from Calgary Alberta Canada.  About 4 years ago I started out on the challenge and adventures of a lifetime, an 8 year would tour on bicycle.  Daunting, to say the least, especially when my only language is English, and not proficient at that either.

Currently, I am 4 years into my world tour covering 80,000K and 20 countries, roughly.  Still about another 4 years to go.  This current trip started at the top of Alaska at the Arctic Ocean and will end at the bottom of South America at the Antarctic Ocean.

On my trip, the highlights are the wildlife, culture, scenery, geography, weather but absolutely the number one highlight anywhere I travel in the world is the people I meet.  I had so much fun meeting your Rotary group and riding with all of you guys.  Everyone was so nice and made me feel so welcome.  I enjoyed my time riding and chatting with you guys so much.  The time spent with your groups is really what my ride is all about and these are the special times for me that I will remember forever.

Also, Santa Cruz is such a beautiful place!  So thank you all very much for your kindness and hospitality.  A huge congratulations on your fundraising efforts, a huge achievement that I admire a great deal with your giving back to the community and having some fun along the way.

Thanks again for everything.

Live-fast, take-chances, carpe-diem, giddy-up!
