On April 1st, our Grand Isle Relief team will depart for Louisiana.  Our goal is to spend the week rebuilding homes damaged by hurricanes Rita and Katrina.  Grand Isle is the only inhabited barrier reef on the gulf and is inhabited by 1,500 residents.  ...

The primary occupation is shrimping and this industry took a direct hit from the storms (see the boat and truck below).  Our team of six (Kelly, Hilary, Ganesh, Wally, Wendy & Jeremy Lezin) will help clean-up and reconstruct homes during our six day stay on the island.

To date, Sunrise Rotary has raised over $17,000, in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Toronto and the Aptos Rotary club.  Over 50 appliances were purchased and delivered to the residents.  These stoves, refridgerators and washers are critical in helping get the residents back into their homes.

Stay tuned for a full trip report...
