Relevant Background

One of seven children of late Rear Admiral and former US Senator Jeremiah & Jane (Maury) Denton, I was raised in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, Virginia. During that formative time, our father was shot down in Vietnam and held as a senior POW for over seven years. He is generally known for outstanding resistance, intellect, endurance, leadership and faith - eventually earning the navy’s highest award, the Navy Cross, among many other honors. Through that time, our mother raised seven children, all under age 18 at shoot down, while helping form and lead the National League of Families.  She did this supported by our family, the navy family and many friends, but mostly by faith in Christ and country.  She is known for her loving demeanor, gentle strength and deep faith – she was a Steel Magnolia. After Vietnam, they served America in the United States Senate (AL-R) and the world’s poor through the Admiral Jeremiah Denton Foundation until their passing and burial together at Arlington National Cemetery.
