How we protect elections & secure democratic institutions

David Wood is a Protective Security Advisor with the Department of Homeland Security. He wil discuss the role of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in protecting elections and securing democratic institutions. In particular he will cover elections work in Pennsylvania, what are the threats, and what are the solutions.
David Wood is the Harrisburg District Protective Security Advisor within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He is responsible for coordination of critical infrastructure protection in 27 counties in Central and Northeast Pennsylvania. Mr. Wood has over 35 years of experience with sensitive security operations to include private sector, Department of Defense, and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A retired Brigadier General, his military career includes positions held as the Director of the Joint Staff, Chief of Staff for the 28th Infantry Division, 28th Combat Aviation Brigade Commander, and State Aviation Officer (SAO). He served as the military Chief of Staff for NSSE World Meeting of Families and NSSE 2016 DNC, as well as numerous key positions in response to natural and man-made disasters. His military service includes combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Mr. Wood also served in the private sector as an operations manager, director of customer service, and Executive Vice President of a Fulfillment and Distribution company with over 1000 employees and 7 facilities. His 15+ years in the private sector laid the foundation of his views on the importance of cross-sector business involvement and collaboration to effectively provide safeguards and resiliency to our critical infrastructure. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and holds a master’s in systems management from the University of Southern California, as well as a graduate of the United States Army War College, National Defense University and Baltic Defence College.
