Hambletonian Marathon, Half Marathon & Good Time Trotters Relay

The fifth annual marathon and marathon relay, and the second year of the half marathon is October 15, 2017.

The full marathon, half marathon and marathon relay start line is on Main Street in Goshen, NY (across from Limoncello’s Restaurant at 159 Main St., Goshen, NY) and the finish line is on the Goshen Historic Track (44 Park Place, Goshen, NY). The start and finish are within walking distance of each other.

The full marathon is a figure 8 course: The first loop is 11.5 miles (where you pass the start area again), and the second loop is 14.7 miles. There is an approximate 2.5 mile overlap on both loops (the first 2.5 miles of loop 1 and loop 2 are the same). Click HERE for course maps & information.
The half marathon is an extension of the first loop. After passing the start area, half marathoners will go off the marathon course to finish an additional 1.6 miles for the 13.1 mile marathon distance, finishing on the Historic Track.
For information on the relay, see # 8 and # 9 below, as well as Relay Information.

There is abundant parking at the Orange County Government Center, 255 Main Street, Goshen, NY. It is approximately 2/10 mile walk to the start/finish area, and directly across the street from the first relay exchange. There will be more than enough room for all marathon and marathon relay participants, as well as spectators, to park.

The marathon, half marathon and relay start together at 8:00 am.

Race weekend registration & packet pick-up will be held on Saturday afternoon from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Delancey’s Restaurant, 40 Park Place, Goshen NY, and early Sunday morning from 6:00 am to 7:45 am at the same location.

Registration for the individual full marathon, half marathon and the relay will be held through and including race day (on-line registration ends Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm). Relay substitutions and individual marathoners switching to the half marathon or relay (you must have additional runner(s) to do this, for a complete 2 or 3-person team) are permitted – please let us know as soon as possible. If you need to change the order of runners within your team, or need to make a substitution, please email the registration director (Kathleen Rifkin) at info@hambletonianmarathon.com.

The prices for the marathon, half marathon and marathon relay are listed on the Registration tab of this website. To view the prices and register, click here for the print application and here for on-line registration.

The marathon relay is 3 legs, and may be made up of 2 or 3 different people (1 person can run 2 legs), and IS allowed to be shared with a full or half marathon runner (the full or half marathoner will be in 2 races). The relay distances (approximate) are 11.5 miles, 9.8 miles, and 4.9 miles respectively. The first leg of the relay may be extended an additional 1.6 miles for the half marathon and the first leg of the relay may continue on to do the full marathon (these runners will be entered in 2 races – there is an additional $10 charge for this option). See Relay Information for more details.

9. The first relay exchange location is just beyond the start area (at the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame, 240 Main Street, Goshen, NY) and requires no transportation by car. The second relay exchange location is at the Chester Depot, 19 Winkler Place, Chester, NY – just before the entrance to the Heritage Trail and is about 6 miles by car from the start/finish area, via Route 17M. Click here for directions from the start area to the second relay exchange. Relay transportation is ON YOUR OWN for 2017 (no transportation will be provided).

The course is supported for 6 hours as a courtesy to the community and the volunteers. If you plan to finish after that time, please run on the sidewalks or stay to the left (against traffic) and follow the signs and arrows. Water stops may be unmanned after 6 hours but will still be set up for slower finishers. You WILL be included in the results and you WILL receive a finishers medal!

The race will be electronically professionally chip timed using a disposable bib (a number with a chip on the back of it). All runners will wear a number on the front of their outfit. The first and second relay runners (bibs A & B) will wear a number without a chip on it (Runner 3 only will have a number with a chip (bib C)). Relay individual legs will NOT be electronically timed (please time yourself if you want your individual leg time). All awards are based on gun times (if you are competing for an award, you must beat your competition over the finish line). If you are running the first leg of the relay AND the half marathon or the full marathon, you will wear 2 numbers, an A number without a chip (for the first leg of the relay) and a separate number with a chip which will be for your half marathon or marathon time (this is for trouble shooting so please wear both bibs).

The full marathon/ relay course is USATF certifed (guaranteed accurate) and was measured by Brian Cavanagh. See the Certification Map Tab on this website for the Certified Map, Measurement Data & Measurement Certificate. Please note that the total distance of the marathon and marathon relay was certified but the individual relay leg distances were not certified (relay distances are approximate). The half marathon course is accurately measured and will be certified in the future.
