The Rotary Club of Kirkland held its meeting on April 18, 2022 online in partnership with the Rotary Club of the Pacific Northwest Ending Sex Trafficking and other Rotary clubs.
 
President Dave DeBois asked Rotarians to come to order at 5:00 p.m..
 
Attending via Zoom were George Anderson, Gary Cohn, Dave DeBois, Don Dicks, Monica Fratita, Margie Glenn, Brandon Honcoop, Isabelle Kalisa, Jim Meniketti, John Pruitt, and Brian Tucker.

There were no guests this evening; the club members were virtual guests of the Rotary Club of the Pacific Northwest Ending Sex Trafficking.

Virginia McKenzie was the host Rotarian for the meeting, and facilitated greetings, welcomes, and ice breaker-style introductions.

There were no Happy Bucks collected this evening because the club members were guests in another club's meeting.
 
Program:
 
Our speaker was Jan Runbeck of the Pierce County Coalition Against Trafficking.  Her purpose was to explain to Rotarians the work of the Pierce County Coalition Against Trafficking, and the history of the group’s formation and efforts, and the partnerships within which they work.  She noted that the dark web is an access point for many acquisition inquiries.  Over the past two years, there has been an increase in sex trafficking and child abuse.  She offered key reasons for the situation, including Covid protocols and distractions having allowed an increase in activity on dark web for sex trafficking and child abuse.  Currently activity is being monitored by most law enforcement agencies in Washington state.  Population diversity is a factor in sex trafficking.  Jan invited Rotarians attending to join in the efforts of the coalition in order to gather more financial and talent support for ending the pain and damage that sex trafficking produces.
