An introduction to cider; an insider’s perspective
Dr. Jeff Peterson will entertain Rotarians with a brief review of the history of cider production around the world and in the United States, and then a description of the elements of cider production.  Dr. Peterson will share his insights through a personal story of developing this business, and finish with a cider tasting featuring several of his products a well as other ciders for comparison.
 
Dr. Peterson is a practicing rheumatologist at Western Washington Arthritis Clinic in Bothell Canyon Park. He is a clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Washington and enjoys teaching and caring for patients. As president of the Washington Rheumatology Alliance, the state medical society for rheumatology, he advocates for patient access to quality care and is a board member and director of the Northwest Rheumatism Society which connects rheumatologists around the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada. Dr. Peterson owns and is the master cidermaker of a 34-acre orchard east of Bellingham near the town of Acme. He produces an award-winning hard cider from pears or apples. A long-time resident of Kirkland, he enjoys spending time in his garden, seeing the sights of Kirkland, and enjoying the many parks.
