Maple Grove 5K Race/Walk and Beer Bash Fundraiser,

Saturday - September 24, 2016
Thank you!! to all that came out and supported our first 5 K Fun Run/Walk event in the Elm Creek Park Reserve.  Mother nature was on our side and held off the rain for us to have a great temperature morning.   The participants young and old, came out and were excited to start the race.  For many this was a first time event and walking through the beautiful paths at Elm Creek was a wonderful experience in its self.  While getting the route ready for the walkers and runners, we saw two minks running around, almost warming up for us to come bye.

After the race the participants received their medals, ate some ice cream, had some treats and of course quenched their thirst with water donated by First Class Mortgage.  We all had a wonderful time and for many this was a first time goal that was met.  After the race, many of the participants went to Wild Bills for a beer bash. We had 3 door prizes for gift cards to local businesses.
We want to thank our sponsors: First Class Mortgage, Medtronic, Jill Hennesen, Mike and Mary Bosquez, and  Steve and Suzanne Plant

The goal of this event was to raise funds to install a bike repair kit on the Rice Lake Park bike loop and to build a playground for a small town in Sasabe, Mexico.  Over the years we have been able to help the town of Sasabe with school supplies and sports equipment – just the basics to be successful in school.  This community and these students have never had a place to play, other than the streets.  Understanding the important role that parks and playgrounds play in building communities and bringing people together, we will be partnering with other local Rotary Clubs, and Maple Grove 5th graders to build a playground next to the school.  We were able to get closer to meeting our goal with this event but we are not there yet.

We hope to see you at our next event!!
