The Military Aviation Museum was born from a passion for World War II-era aircraft, and over the years, it has grown into a truly living history museum that rivals any other of its kind in the world.

The first aircraft in the collection was the Curtiss P-40 salvaged from the tundra in Siberia, Russia. Each aircraft, whether salvaged in pieces, found derelict in an old barn, or purchased from another museum’s collection, has been meticulously restored by military aviation engineers and experts.

Over the years, the museum has grown from a small, private grass airfield in the Pungo community of southeastern Virginia Beach to a complex of four hangars, museum space for the non-flying pieces of the collection, and a maintenance hangar and several storage buildings.

FLYING PROMS SHOW - 7:00 PM

Now in its 7th installment, The Flying Proms offers guests a truly unique experience. Getting its roots from the United Kingdom‘s traditional Proms, the Military Aviation Museum’s Flying Proms is the only event of its kind in North America. The museum is pleased to have Symphonicity back as the orchestral partner for this year’s event.

The first half of the evening’s entertainment will feature aerial displays from the museum’s collection of historical aircraft, such as the DeHavilland Mosquito and Messerschmitt Bf-109, accompanied by musical selections from popular aviation-themed movies. As dusk falls, and the planes land, the second half of the performance will commence, featuring an assortment of patriotic and pops music. Festivities culminate with a fireworks finale provided by Zambelli Fireworks.
