FoodBank of Southeastern VA Volunteer Event

SATURDAY, 01 DECEMBER from 9:00 am until 12 noon is Rotary Day at the Food Bank!  This popular annual event is our last chance betfore Thanksgiving to assist the FoodBank with various tasks.  Pre-registration** is required!

The Foodbank is located at 800 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23504. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled shift to allow time for signing-in and orientation.

INSTRUCTIONS  

1. All individuals working in the warehouse must be age 12 or older. Youth ages 12 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult guardian.
2. All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes, for your safety.  Whether in the warehouse, outside at a Mobile Pantry, or at any food drive in the community, a can or heavy box can drop on your foot. Closed-toe shoes are a minimum safety requirement. Flip flops, sandals and high heels are not appropriate.
3. Be prepared with weather-appropriate clothing, as you may be outside or inside a part of our facility where the building is NOT climate controlled. No tank tops or miniskirts, and please have midriffs covered.
4. Don’t wear any dangling jewelry. Long necklaces, bracelets and earrings can get caught on a box lid or metal rack and cause injury. Safety first at all times.
5. No earphones while volunteering. Volunteers cannot be listening to personal electronic devices while volunteering - no MP3 player, cell phone, Bluetooth, or i-anything. All volunteers (and staff) need to be alert while volunteering, not taking calls or listening to music. Also, no texting while walking through the warehouse or operating any equipment.
6. Watch and listen for machinery and equipment. Hear that horn? It’s a forklift behind you - step to the edge of the aisle. The non-motorized pallet jack is lifting a heavy pallet – keep your feet clear. Be alert when volunteering!
