Event Description:
Thousands of children will have a wonderful Christmas because YOU helped! Volunteers are needed to help us sort gifts and get our Christmas Depot ready for families to pick up gifts that have been purchased for their children. Children ages 8 - 18 MUST be accompanied by a parent at all times. Youth groups are welcome; however there must be an youth to adult ration of 3:1. This volunteer opportunity involves a lot of walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling. This is a warehouse location - Please dress in layers as there may or may not be heat in the building. Also, wear comfortable walking shoes.
Process:.
Gifts that have been purchased for the children registered with our Angel Tree program (children in need) will be arriving at our Christmas Depot. Each family that has registered their child/ren is assigned a number. A paper with their number will be placed on the floor, indicating their assigned location, As the gifts arrive at the Depot, volunteers will be placing the gifts purchased for specific children at their family’s assigned space on the floor. Once all of the children’s gifts have arrived for a specific family, the gifts will be placed into a large colored bag. Gifts that arrive that are not designated for a particular child will be sorted by age range in the “Forgotten Angel” space. These gifts will be used to fill requests for children who have not had gifts purchased for them. (We want to be sure every child that is registered receives Christmas gifts.)
Location:
The Christmas Depot is located at the Military Circle Mall in the space that was previously Sears. Please look for the 2 story glass building - we are located on the opposite side of the parking lot. The volunteer entrance is between the food court entrance and the main mall entrance. Look for the Salvation Army and Toys for Toys signs.
