As expected, last week’s talk by Marie Bernard on one of her favorite topics, Sunnyvale Community Services, was well received by those in attendance. From what I could see, there was not one phone or tablet being used. All attention was on Marie as she discussed the work done by SCS. She showed some videos that were played at the recent fundraiser at LinkedIn (again thank you Katie Ferrick for arranging it so that we could use LinkedIn’s facility). The fundraiser was to get money for the summer food program. The food program helps children from disadvantaged families living in Sunnyvale.
The videos that Marie showed gave Sunnyvale Rotary much thanks for the efforts we all put in to assist the children. They will be on the website shortly. If they are an appropriate size, thy will also be put on the district website to showcase how a District 5170 club helps its community. Watching those videos had to make you feel proud.

(District 5170 is in Zone 26), will be the main speaker at this week’s cabinet meeting. Steven will be sharing his Rotary story which started with Interact and includes becoming a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, and colleague of Dr. Jane Goodall and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
The cabinet meeting is on September 3, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel by the San Jose airport. There is some social time between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. that would be a good time to meet other Rotarians from around the district. The cabinet meeting is called by District Governor Ed Jellen. The topics are on issues of concern to Rotarians in District 5170. Attendance is open to everyone. Dinner is available at $35 but you must reserve it by contacting Brittany at brittany.5170@gmail.com . If you do not eat, there is a $5.00 parking fee.
The next social event is September 18 at Ortega Park. It is the club yearly favorite Family Picnic. Yes, that means you are more than welcome to bring husbands, wives, partners, children. Sunnyvale Sunrise Rotary has been invited to attend. The picnic would be a great place to start building a relationship with them as another Rotary club in Sunnyvale that meets in the morning. It all starts at 5:00 p.m. See the list Jerry Nabhan has been passing around to sign up and indicate what you might want to bring to add the table. There is no charge for the picnic and the club will be purchasing the BBQ products. In October, we will have the Friday with Friends that had been scheduled for September in October at Dustin’s catering facility. Hmmmmm….catering facility……you know the food has to be great.
See you Tuesday......
