Mike Shum, incoming President of the Rotary Club of Sunnyvale (SVR) introduced his team and discussed his plans for the Rotary year that commenced July 1. Mike acknowledged the assistance provided by Club Trainer, Linda Price, in facilitating the strategic planning meeting held on June 20. In addition to the fund raising projects usually associated with the SVR, i.e., A Sante, the annual crabfeed and Dinner at the Dump, Mike announced that Toyota of Sunnyvale will join with SVR to co-sponsor a Golf Tournament in May of next year. To assure the success of the venture, Mike has recruited new member, Bill Benak, to provide leadership. Another major announcement is that starting in September, the regular Club meeting will be an evening meeting in a venue or venues to be determined. The motivation for this innovation is to encourage member attendance for those who find it difficult to come to meetings during the day. In addition, this will also allow for participation by spouses and significant others and may allow us to attract speakers otherwise not available.
Mike's Team 2015-2016
President-Elect: Liz Lopez-Aguado
Past President: Dick Smith
Last evening, in the company of family and friends, outgoing President, Dick Smith, gave incoming President, Mike Shum, his President's pin of office. The setting was the beautiful home and grounds of Rotarian, Tammy Gaw and her husband Roger. The meal was catered by Rotarian, Justin Eisenhauer and featured his signature "mac and cheese" as a complement to Teriyaki Chicken and Pulled Pork. Entertainment had to be seen to be believed (see videos). In addition to a Carribbean steel drummer, we were treated to an up close and personal show of Tahitian Fire dancers. The grand finale featured a electrified mermaid swimming in the Gaw's pool! I hope someone got photos of that!
REMEMBER
We are dark (no meeting) next week and will kick of the new year with Mike at the helm on July 7.
Photos, Photos, Photos!

Edward Jones Financial Advisor and Rotarian, Shane Jacksteit, recently was awarded the Edward Jones Spirit of Caring Award. The financial services firm gives out this exclusive award to recognize those financial advisors who exemplify the values, culture and spirit of giving back. That certainly fits our Shane. p.s. Shane, we need an update on your photo!

MAPC Project to aid Sunnyvale PSO Canines
Dr. Ken Sawyer is conducting an independent fund-raiser "Pink Kitties for Hard Cord Doggies" through his veterinary clinic, Murphy Avenue Pet Clinic (MAPC) to raise funds to provide two bullet-proof vests for the Sunnyvale Public Safety canines. For each $100 raised Dr. Sawyer will don hot pink “hello Kitty” scrubs for a day.
July 1 started a new Rotary Year and new annual giving program challenge. Our goal this year is to be a 100% sustainer club (every member gives at least $100 to the Rotary Foundation) We want to be a 100% EVEY (Every Rotarian Every Year) club as well. So even if you can't be a sustainer, at least support TRF with a contribution of some amount. Let’s make this happen for President Mike Shum and our new DG, Gilroy Rotary Club member, Susan Valenta. The new DG will visit our club on August 4, at which time she will recognize all members contributing at the Double Sustainer, Super Sustainer and Paul Harris Society Level. To receive recognition during her visit, you can either make a contribution at the applicable level as noted below, or sign and return a pledge card to the Foundation Chair (Joe Ribera), prior to the DG's visit.
