Honor Flight Bay Area
Mar 08, 2016
Honor Flight is a national organization founded in 2004 to
take World War II veterans to Washington DC to see the memorials in
their honor. From here it is an all expense paid three day trip for
veterans underwritten by private and corporate donations. I would
truly welcome the opportunity to come and speak to your Rotary club
about our program. We like to spread the word so we don't miss any
veteran who would like to go on this trip. When we have transported
all the WWII vets, we will take Korean vets then Viet Nam, etc. For
more information, our website is: www.honorflightbayarea.org

Olga Murray, Founder
Jun 14, 2016
Olga Murray (Founder, Honorary President) known as “Olga Mom” to thousands of Nepali children, founder and honorary president Olga Murray is living proof that getting older doesn’t mean slowing down. Born in 1925 in Transylvania, Olga came with her parents and siblings to the U.S. when she was six year old. After graduation from Columbia University, she earned a law degree from George Washington University, where she was one of a handful of female students. Olga worked her way through law school as a researcher and writer for famed muckraking columnist Drew Pearson. With her law degree in hand, she found that few law firms would hire a woman. So Olga knocked on the door of the California Supreme Court, where she became a research attorney for Chief Justice Phil Gibson. When he retired, Olga joined the law staff of the newly-appointed Justice Stanley Mosk. During her 37-year tenure at the Court, Olga helped to write important decisions in the areas of civil rights, women’s rights, and environmental policy. She retired from the law in 1992 to launch yet another career—helping impoverished children in Nepal. Olga spends half the year in Sausalito, California, raising funds for NYF, and the other six months in Nepal overseeing NYF projects. |

Travel to Cuba -What’s it Like to be Stranded on an Island with Fidel Castro?
Jul 19, 2016
Jim Colton took up photography at the age of 13 in his home state of Minnesota when he inherited a Voightlander 120 film camera with a leaky bellows. He taped up the bellows and set up a darkroom in the only bathroom in his family’s home of seven. He’s been a photographer ever since. After graduating with mechanical engineering degrees from the University of Minnesota and Stanford, he worked at SRI International for 45 years where he performed research on the effects of explosions on structures. During the last decade Jim, through his photography, has sought to capture the people and culture of other countries including Viet Nam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Guatemala, Argentina, and Chile. In February of 2015, he was a visiting artist to Cuba where he had the opportunity to engage with numerous Cuban citizens. His presentation today will focus on the lives of the common people in Cuba before and after the Cuban Revolution. |
