President Catrina opened the meeting and led us in the Four-Way Test.
Dale Flin introduced guest Rich Farr. A former Rotarian, Rich is contemplating returning to the club!
There were no visiting Rotarians.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Redistricting: this will impact our club as it proposes combining three districts. DG Evan Kurtz will be at the meeting next week to address questions Rotarians may have.
- The Mac and Cheese Bowl is coming up on May 4th. Coltivare will be entering, but they need some help with serving at the event (4:30-7 PM). If you are interested, let Catrina know.
- Jack Roscoe: the Savage Club purchased a performance space on North Lansing Road; the club is offering the space to singers or performers who would like to use the former church for rehearsals, events, etc. Contact Jack if you are interested.
- Heidi Goldstein: the Library Book Sale is looking for volunteers from nonprofit organizations to help sort books May 21-24, with various shifts. The nonprofits helping can put up signs, and the groups will be recognized; it’s a great opportunity to volunteer and have your organization receive acknowledgment. If interested contact Heidi.
GET TO KNOW A FELLOW ROTARIAN
Born in Buffalo to a family of dairy farmers, Tim Emerson went to Ithaca College for music and still keeps in touch with friends from there. He played with many different musical organizations and along the way, met Peter (from Peter Paul & Mary); Peter is a Rotarian and encouraged Tim to join. Having been involved with music throughout his career, Tim enjoyed teaching for a time but now does health and wellness coaching. Unfortunately for us, Tim is moving to Essex, NY and is thankful for his time with our club.

LAST WEEK’S PRESENTATION
Cal Walker introduced Dr. Susan Salahshor, founding Program Director of the Physician Assistant Program in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Ithaca College. Dr. Salahshor shared information about the newly established Physician Assistant professional program, situated on the Ithaca Commons. The 27-month academic program aims to educate, engage, and empower physician assistant learners to achieve excellence through medical theory, clinical practice, and exemplary professional performance in the communities we serve, and to meet the needs of patients from a diversity of backgrounds in our community, including of socio-economic, religious, cultural, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Preference is given to Veterans, IC students and alumni, and underrepresented populations experiences. Forty learners will comprise the next class, with the majority taking out loans to cover the cost of the program.
HAPPY DOLLARS
- Roger Segelken is teaching his obituary writing class again this spring: “Ultimate Last Word: Write Your Own Obituary.” It will be offered through GIAC on the last three Thursday afternoons in April and the first Thursday afternoon in May from 2-3:30 PM. If interested, go to GIAC to sign up; there is no charge, but seating is limited.
- Dale Flinn was happy to share that his daughter has been chosen by her district to be District Governor designee. This means that she would be DG in 2024-25, the first year that re-districting would be in place, if approved (3-districts combined). She will be the third generation in the Flinn family to serve as a District Governor!
- Mary Kane: celebrating March 17th/St. Patrick’s Day, she sang “When Irish Eyes are Smiling.”
President Catrina rang the bell to close the meeting.
