Sandra Materi
I was born in Oklahoma City and my parents returned to Wyoming within the year, so I grew up in Wyoming. We lived in various small towns in Wyoming over the years. As an adult, I moved away several times but always ended up returning to Wyoming. Casper is home now. I graduated from the University of Wyoming with Honors with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration.
I have worked various types of jobs: veterinary assistant, job coach for the severely mentally ill, bookkeeper, and banking. I started working at Wyoming Capital Access (WCA) in 2004 and am currently the Vice President. WCA originates and services US Small Business Administration loans to businesses in the state of Wyoming. This is a federal government loan program designed to help small businesses expand and grow.
I have been an animal lover all my life. I currently volunteer at Reach 4A Star Riding Academy, Project Kenny, and Casper Community TNR Program. I have fostered and rehabilitated over thirty homeless dogs through various rescue organizations, and trained several dogs in the great sport of dog agility.
I have also been fortunate enough to be able to take some great trips. I traveled to Poland and Romania in 2013 and toured Auschwitz and Dracula’s Castle, among other places. We spent an incredible day hiking in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. In 2015 I traveled to Nepal on a fundraiser for Street Dog Care, an organization that helps the 25 million homeless dogs in Kathmandu, Nepal. I volunteered at the shelter there as well as doing tourist activities, which included another incredible day hiking in the Himalayan Mountains. I spent a week in Costa Rica in 2022, where you can do beaches and mountains in the same day, and am traveling to Iceland in April 2023.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my involvement in Rotary and the people I have met. It is very rewarding to be part of an organization that does so much good for others.
April Speakers
On April 3rd we were supposed to hear about Organ Transplant Month but the speaker was ill and the snowstorm kept many members from attending.
On April 10th, we will learn about Guatemala School and Rotary Water from Sara Miller.
Our Annual Meeting will be held on April 17th at the Airport.
On April 24th, we will hear from Lindsey Tempest from Interfaith of Casper.
Save the Dates
The District Conference is June 8-10 in Estes Park. You can get an application from President Miamie Sleep. To reserve a room you will email Dave True's assistant, Wendie Allen. As a reminder, our club pays for your hotel and registration. The great thing about going to the District Conference is you will get to meet other like-minded Rotarians, make new friends, get ideas, and learn new stuff.
