Welcome back to our monthly member bulletin. Find out who our upcoming speakers are, what we covered during the last month's meetings, read about what the Board is up to, and more.
January Speakers
There was no meeting on January 2nd.
On January 9th, we hear from Dr. Benson from the Wind River Job Corps.
On January 16th our own Rev. Bill Pierce. He spoke about the Buffalo Soldiers of Wyoming and about the African Americans who served in our State during the war with Native Americans.
On January 23rd we heard from Jamie Purcell with the Wyoming Food for Thought Project.
The January 30th meeting was supposed to be about Rotary and our membership drive, however, due to inclement weather, Dan Odell led us in a fun game of getting to know one another.

Guest Meal Costs
As you can imagine in your own lives, food costs have gone up, and the cost for meals at the Ramkota have also gone up. The Rotary Board has not moved to raise member meal costs, but has elected to do so for guest meals. Effective January 1, 2023, the cost of guest meals will go from $13.00 per meal to $15.00. That number ($15.00) is still below the actual cost of the meal, but the Board wanted to raise the price to closer cover the cost of the guest meal without discouraging people from bringing guests. As you also know, guest meals charges are billed to the inviting member in arrears, so any guests for January, February, or March of this year will be invoiced on the second quarter invoice that goes out on the last day of March. If you have questions on this, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Club Treasurer, Glenn Januska.
Adventures of Alice
Our exchange student Alice had an exciting January. She made it to Hogadon Basin Ski Area to try out skiing. She made her first snow angels. Host-sister Allie Scroggins has also been teaching Alice a little Japanese. The Scroggins family also made a trip to Denver where they visited the aquarium.
As you know, part of the benefit of being an exchange student is getting to try new things and experience a different way of life. If you have a hobby or experience that you'd like to share with Alice, please let us know! We want Alice to have the best experience in Casper.
Paul Harris Dinner Recap
On January 19th, the three Rotary clubs of Casper hosted the annual Paul Harris Dinner to celebrate and recognize the generosity of Rotarians for their support to The Rotary Foundation.
The evening’s special guests included District 5440 Governor Lee Verra-Nelson, District 5440 Governor-Elect Steve Sehnert, District 5440 Foundation Committee Chair Chris Woodruff, and Zone 26/27 Governor Education Chair Barbara Redder.
The guest speaker for the evening was Mr. Greg Podd, Trustee of The Rotary Foundation. Greg provided highlights of the incredible work being done by Rotary International through the wonderful generosity of Rotarians around the world.
Many thanks to the special guests for their comments, the Tate Pumphouse for hosting, Occasions By Cory for an exceptional meal, and to the planning committee for their super work to deliver this first-class event. View more photos on our Facebook page.
Rest in Peace
It is with deep sadness that we share of the passing of long-time member, Susan McMurry.
Susan “Susie” Kay (Warburton) McMurry (December 23, 1946 - January 28, 2023)
Susie passed away peacefully on January 28, 2023, at Wyoming Medical Center, after a lifelong battle with Diabetes. A special thanks to her loving caregivers lead by Brooke Baker. She was born in Casper on December 23, 1946 to Robert and Tillie Warburton. Growing up in Elk Mountain and Hanna, Wyoming, Suz graduated from Hannah High and moved to Casper to attend Casper College (AS Education) finishing her degree at the University of Wyoming (BS Education). On December 21, 1973 Susie married Mick McMurry and together they raised two daughters, Trudi and Jillian and fostered countless children.
Susie, wife, mother, and “Nana” was an incredible combination of strength, courage, grace, and dignity with a witty sense of humor who made a lifelong commitment to serving others. Susie took great pride in her husband Mick, his many accomplishments and their commitment to building a better Wyoming. Susie courageously always thought of others first. She gave from her heart and was a living legacy of joy, kindness, love, and faith. Her life was about blessing others.
Susie is survived by her daughters; Trudi (Tyler) Holthouse and Jillian McMurry, Sister San Koeneke, Grandchildren Lou McMurry, Tayla Davis, Tillie Holthouse, Ellie Holthouse, Evie, Lily, Max, and Drew Kaschmitter, and her favorite boy of all Neil Campbell.
Susie was preceded in death by her loving parents Robert and Tillie, her sisters Trudy Wilson and Pat Quigly, and by her beloved husband Mick.
Susie’s family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Child Development Center of Natrona County or the McMurry Foundation.
Rotary Foundation
Have you considered a financial donation to support Rotary special causes? There are so many opportunities for your dollars to make a difference.
You might consider giving to “featured causes” like the Annual Fund-Share, Polio Fund, World Fund, or Disaster Response Fund. Contributions to these featured causes are eligible for Paul Harris Fellow recognition. Contributions to the Annual Fund help support our club and district by providing dollars back to the district for home-grown projects.
You might also consider supporting one of seven special causes: The Environment, Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, or Community Economic Development.
To donate, click here: https://my.rotary.org/en/donate. The website provides more details and a safe and secure way to contribute a one-time or recurring donation.
If you have questions please feel free to contact Kelly Ivanoff.
Student Scholarships Available
One of the many ways that we support the future leaders of our community is by offering scholarship opportunities to local high school seniors. If interested, please submit scholarship entries by March 25th, 2023.
