Dear District 5180 Member, Last year the Rotary Club of Sacramento (RCOS) hosted the 1st Annual Pony Express Marathon. Many Clubs in our District participated in a wide variety of ways. This year we hope to have even more of the Clubs get involved. Some Clubs donated funds, others worked the event as volunteers and 8-10 came out and joined us in “Rotary Village” to promote Rotary throughout the area. Last year, my wife Diann and I visited almost every Club in the District but this year we are unable to do so. I would like to invite a representative (or 2) from your Club to join us at the RCOS Training Center located at 1451 River Park Drive, Training room #280 on Wednesday October 12, 2016 at 6pm to discuss how your Club can benefit from participating in this event. Please RSVP to staff at the RCOS office and let us know if you will be sending a representative. Thanks for considering this opportunity and letting me know if you will meet with me. Sincerely,
Dave Cohen Rotary Club of Sacramento Immediate Past President

Hello Fellow Rotarians! It’s time for one of my favorite events…Brown Bag Day! I have visited some amazing places and learned so very much visiting other Rotarians work places. For you newer members, Brown Bag Day is when we visit our fellow Rotarian’s work place for lunch, just as Paul Harris did in the beginning days of Rotary. |

California State Librarian
Feb. 28, 2017
Life in the Library Economy. Gov. Jerry Brown appointed Greg Lucas California’s 25th State Librarian in May 2014. Previously, Greg was the bureau chief for the San Francisco Chronicle and covered politics and policy at the State Capitol for nearly 20 years. The State Library’s priorities are to improve reading skills throughout the state, put library cards into the hands of every school kid and provide all Californians the information they need – no matter what community they live in. The State Library invests $10 million annually in local libraries to help them develop more innovative and efficient ways to serve their communities. Since 2015, the State Library has improved access for millions of Californians by helping connect more than half of the state’s 1,100 libraries to a high-speed Internet network that links universities, colleges, schools and libraries around the world. Greg has a degree in communications from Stanford University. A Masters in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California and plans to complete his Masters in Information Sciences at San Jose State University by January 2018. |
