Bike for Hospice

Thank you to the sponsors, volunteers and riders who made the inaugural Bike for hospice such an overwhelming success.  Thanks to the generosity of our amazing community more than $25000 was raised to support Hospice Peterborough and the work of BEL Rotary.

On Saturday September17th, 105 hardy cyclists defied the elements and headed out from Isobel Morris Park, Lakefield on their bicycles in support of Hospice Peterborough and the BEL  Rotary Club.  Despite the rain, the first annual “Bike for Hospice” was a huge success!

The ride featured three routes of varying length and difficulty through the beautiful Kawartha cottage country.  “I had no idea cyclists were such a hardy group”, said Alison Casey of Hospice, “I anticipated once the rain stated the riders wouldn’t show up. It was an amazing turn out and a lovely venue”.  As one cyclist said, “Riding in the rain made it more meaningful.  Riding on a sunny day is really just going for a bike ride: riding in the rain is doing it for a worthy cause”.  It was truly a family event!

In excess of $25,000 was raised to support the construction of the new Hospice Peterborough 10 bed facility and the work of the BEL Rotary Club.   We extend a heartfelt thank you to the sponsors, supporters, volunteers and of course the cyclists who made this event possible.  Next year’s event is scheduled for Saturday September 16, 2017, Isobel Morris Park in Lakefield.
