Celebrating Together

In the true spirit of Christmas BEL Rotarians provided for 5 local families during the Christmas season.

The evening of December 14th was a celebration of the “true meaning of Christmas” with the sharing of the BEL Rotary “Adopt a Family” purchases! For some families in our community the joy that many of us associate with the Christmas season is tarnished by financial demands and stretched budgets.  Many families live below the poverty line.  Many others have modest incomes and have to make difficult decisions at this time of year: do they buy presents for their children or do they put food on the table?
Members of the BEL Rotary club adopted five families; one each from Chemong, Ridpath, St Paul Lakefield, St Martin and Lakefield Secondary School.  With input from the schools, Rotarians purchased toys, books and clothing, specific to the interests and needs of the children.  A slow cooker, cook book and food items were also purchased for each family.  Spirit was high at the Monday night meeting when the Rotarians found their “inner child” and shared their purchases.  President Dave knows better than anyone the impact this will have on local families. “I work in a shelter for the homeless, and the opportunity to bring hope to a family at this time of year is a great gift”, said Presdient Dave.  “I see many children who will not have a Christmas”. The purchases will be delivered to the schools for pick up by the families.
Spirits were high as members shared their treasures!  The parcels will be delivered to the five schools in time
