Club approves new meeting format and announces focus for 2018-19

New Club Vice President Al Barton, presented output from the club's planning retreat held May 12 at the Sedona Pubic Library. Al, who facilitated the retreat, shared a new meeting format for the year: to meet the second, third and fourth Tuesday of the month; hold a social get-together  from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon (also a good time for mini-meetings); have the program first, business second; some meetings spotlighting member bios; and adjourn by 1 p.m. After discussion, the club approved the new format, with dates and times starting in September. The club continues to meet the first and third Tuesday through August. Al also announced the year's focus is Empowering Youth. Many of the club's activities promote opportunities for youth including the Imagination Library, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, Interact Club, Exchange Students, and the Career Fair for high school students.  The club will continue to achieve annual goals for the Five Avenues of Service: Club Service; Community Service; International Service; Vocational Service; and Youth Service. The club was presented with the 5 Avenues of Service Achievement Award for 2017-18 during the state conference. Al also said the club is impacted by leadership fatigue. Possible solutions include: committee co-chairs sharing responsibility; reducing expectations; and forming partnerships to leverage our human resources. The biggest challenge is finding leadership for the 2019 Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off.
