Our speaker was Pauline Filemoni with ERAU. (928)777-3429 pilemonp@erau.edu
Pauline has been working for 20 years in student recruitment and advising at the Center for International Programs and Studies (CIPS). Their three services include Study Abroad and Global Engagement, Embry-Riddle Language Institute, and International Student and Scholar Services.
International students have a huge economic impact in Arizona, including ASU at 6th in the nation for international students. ERAU currently has the most international students from South Korea, U.A.E, Saudi Arabia, China, and Taiwan respectively.
Ms Filemoni’s work helps international students with the challenges they face, including language barriers, unfamiliarity with American culture, homesickness, learning American teaching methods, intercultural communication and finding off campus housing.
Study Abroad and Global Engagement oversees partner agreements with foreign educational institutions. Organizes and facilitates faculty-led study programs in many countries. Works with third party programs to expand opportunities for students. Coordinates exchange program incoming and outgoing students. Recruits students to participate.

Embry Riddle Language Institute provides classes for English to students who don’t meet proficiency requirements. Offers a lab course on American culture focusing on Arizona history, monuments and nature sites.
International Student and Scholar Services serves international students who hold non-immigrant visas to study or research in the USA. Provides advising to the NHS about students’ status. Collaborates for international student events and community.
