Kari is one of twenty-four dietitians employed at their stores throughout the Des Moines area. Kari works primarily out of the Johnston store. Some stores employ two dietitians.
 
Hy-Vee’s nutritional consulting services include: Education through their two nutrition and healthy lifestyle magazines - "Balance" and "Seasons".  Biometric screenings for individuals and business groups.
 
"Begin" - which is a ten-week nutritional and healthy lifestyle coaching program.
 
Lunch and learns, where Hy-Vee caters a health conscious meal and presents about nutrition.
 
Hy-Vee has developed an optional health conscious catering menu for events.
 
"HyVee Kids Fit" program that works with children's groups from 4th to 7th grade on exercise and nutrition.  HyVee store tours to groups or individuals to educate on how to select foods for a well-balanced and healthy diet.  The cost of some of these services may be covered under health insurance if accompanied by a doctor's referral.
 
"Dish" is a freezer-meal program where the client assembles their meals in the cafe area of the store from ingredients that are pre-chopped and laid-out per the dietitian's recipe. The shopper can exclude ingredients they don't like. The shopper then takes the meals home in freezer bags and stores them until needed during the week. This saves the shopper lots of preparation time.
