ROTARY REVELRY

Our Revelry, held on Friday, August 26, in the East Restaurant in Plaza Guaynabo, had a healthy attendance of 25+ Rotarians and guests. Two tables of revelers stayed and enjoyed a fine dinner after the cocktails and appetizers were served.

LAST WEEK

Guest speaker, Antonio Morales, has had a long association with San Juan Rotary. With a life story that reads as a novel, Antonio went from the Llorens Torres Housing to a theatrical and film director and motivational speaker. Knowing the value ofresiliency, Antonio started a theatrical performance group in the housing project, while a teenager, That's when San Juan Rotary first took note of his unusual talent. He taught at St. John's Middle School for six years.
Then, in 2010, through the office of the Mayor of San Juan, he formed the San Juan Drama Club comprised of 150 students that gave 4-5 performances yearly. His film, Amor en el Caserio, loosely based on Romeo & Juliet, was a box office hit. With a grant from the Department of Education, Antonio reaches 20,000 high risk students with his motivational program. In addition to his gratitude to our club, he extended particular thanks to Rotarians Bob Bolte, Betsy Parker and Gerry Cumpiano for their faith in him. Antonio 's final words were, '"It's where we are heading, not where we came from." Thanks to Bob Bolte for bringing us this inspiring speaker.
